CALEB’S BIRTHDAY BINGO OF LOVE

February 9th is a day we will never forget and it would mean the world if you don't either. Usually we mark the 9th of every month by going out into the community and sharing Caleb's love publicly and being “Nice on the 9th.” However, we've learned our limits. Days like this are just too gut-wrenchingly painful to try to put on a happy face. We will still be celebrating Caleb's beautiful life in our own way, but we would LOVE it if you would too. If you want a fun way to remember Caleb and to spread the love that Caleb gave so freely to everyone, join us to play BINGO, Caleb style! Download the CALEB bingo card below. Mark off one square, a row, or play for blackout!! Complete the card in one day or spread it out over the rest of the month. We hope you feel him singing and clapping for you as you spread his love to a world who desperately needs it.

I will never think of Caleb as any older than 2 but this year he would be 10. Whether you mark off one square, 10 or complete the whole card, thank you.

Keep carrying Caleb’s light.

Nice on the 9th for the Genesis Project

Hello everyone! We are thrilled to spotlight The Genesis Project for our April Nice on the 9th virtual event!

The Genesis Project is an OKC non-profit residential facility that provides therapeutic services for boys ages six to twelve. They house up to sixteen boys and offer housing, clothing, medical care, education, and food in addition to teaching living and social skills.

Adam personally spoke with Scott Coppenbarger, the Executive Director, and his compassion and dedication to helping these kids is nothing short of amazing. Some of the children placed in their care have been through as many as thirteen foster programs, and The Genesis Project uses trauma-informed treatments, therapies, and support to fit a unique treatment to each boy.

On the main page of the website you can find buttons that will take you to their wish list or a donate page. The Facebook page shows some of the many ways that they use their resources to help make this world brighter for some kids that desperately need it.

Nice on the 9th*(15th this month)-Pack the Pockets Coat Drive!

WE NEED YOUR COATS!!
Bring new or gently used coats sizes XL-3XL to be distributed with our friends from Feed His Sheep Oklahoma. We are delaying our normal Nice on the 9th gathering to January 15th from 8am to 9:30am in the parking lot on the NW Corner of Sheridan and Dewey in OKC (closest address is 609 W Sheridan).

Back by popular demand, once again we will be "packing the pockets" with baggies full of goodies and assisting in serving a hot meal. Feed His Sheep meets at this location every Sunday so everyone will be ready and waiting. Don't be late or you will miss it!

Our winter weather has literally been killing our unhoused neighbors and taking fingers and toes from frostbite. We want to do our part to change this.

Items needed to pack the pockets include:
-Hand warmers
-Trial size lotions
-Mini Vaseline
-Notes of encouragement
-Gloves
-Chapstick
-Kleenex
-Gum/small, individually wrapped candy
-Small hand sanitizer
-Bus passes
-Gift cards
-Small protein snacks (nuts, small jerky, tuna pouches, peanut butter packets, etc)
-Anything else you can think of that is small enough to fit in a coat pocket

-Not local?
Someone in your area could probably use a care package. Keep water/items with you and be Nice on the 9th wherever you live. We are also continuing to share the link to purchase coats for local children.

Feed His Sheep is an incredible group of people serving our community. "We knew we had to start BEING the church, instead of just DOING church. We have no agenda, no church affiliation, and no corporate sponsors. Ours is a solely Spirit-led ministry." For more info, check out their Facebook page:

Join us from now until Friday, Dec 9th to be Nice on the 9th! Bring a NEW, UNWRAPPED toy to Parlor OKC for kids spending the holidays at Integris Health Baptist Medical Center’s new Children’s wing.

A group will also be leaving the cooking or cocktails to one of the 7 restaurants or 2 bars for dinner at Parlor OKC (11 NE 6th St, OKC, OK 73104) on Friday, December 9th from 6-8. You are guaranteed to leave with a full belly and heart (and maybe a new friend or two)!

Outside of Oklahoma? Already have another obligation? Send a toy from their wish list! We know babies and teens are usually forgotten in toy drives so we encourage a variety!

We can’t wait to see everyone soon!

nice on the 9th - pet loss

The second Sunday in September is National Pet Memorial Day; a time when pet owners across the country remember their beloved "furmily" members who have passed on. This Nice on the 9th we will be sending care packs and financial assistance to help ease the burden for those making the heartbreaking decision to let their animals join the Rainbow Bridge. This is especially timely as we just went through this with Caleb's incredibly tolerant kitty. We had two of the most compassionate organizations who went above and beyond for us so we are paying it forward with some extra love to them and to the families they comfort.

The care packs and donations will be given to Red Fern Pets: In Home Euthanasia and End of Life Care and Precious Pets Cemetery to gift to those who need a little extra Caleb love.

We need your help in collecting handwritten notes to let people know we are thinking of them during a very difficult time. If you would like to send a note, please mail cards/pictures or small care items to:

The Caleb Effect Foundation
P.O. Box 31951
Edmond, OK 73003

(For those who like having sample notes like we often do at in-person events, here are a few example ideas to help get your wheels turning:

We are sorry for your loss of your dear furmily member. Your community sends extra love and support in memory of your pet and a little boy who loved his animals. Love your friends at The Caleb Effect Foundation
---------
Our pets are special members of the family. Sending extra care for your broken heart. Hugs and love, (your first name) and The Caleb Effect Foundation.
---------
Saying "See you at the Rainbow Bridge" is never easy. We hope you feel the love surrounding your sadness on this most difficult day. You and your pet are loved.
Love, (your first name) with The Caleb Effect Foundation
---------
If you would like to make a monetary donation, please click the “Nice on the 9th - Pet Loss” before processing your payment.

Thank you for helping us remember our furry/feathery/scaly friends and sending extra TLC to their families.

Nice on the 9th for Public schools!

Virtual fundraiser only this month!
(We created a fundraiser from our Facebook/Insta pages but for those looking for an actual event, we are sharing here as well)

Caleb would be going into 3rd grade in a couple of weeks. This is another very difficult time for those of us trying our best to live without our kids. As our way to still be able to send Caleb to school (a place he LOVED going) and spread SUDC awareness, we are continuing our annual schools supplies drive.

After an especially challenging couple of COVID years, let's show our teachers and students that we are here for them through it all!

Our schools are able to purchase supplies in bulk so this year we are going to spread our dollars as far as possible with an online fundraiser. If you would like to help teachers and students in the OKC metro with the greatest needs, please donate here. Everything is even more expensive right now so whether you can give $9 or $99, it all helps!

Thank you!

--------------------
(Now for the official stuff just in case Caleb finds some new friends this month

The Caleb Effect Foundation is a charitable organization dedicated to celebrating the life and love of Caleb Wile by performing acts of kindness in his memory and supporting the SUDC Foundation’s mission of awareness, advocating for research, and supporting those affected by sudden unexpected or unexplained death in childhood.

Facebook/IG take care of the donation processing with no fees. If you would like to donate via our website, click the notation that the donation is for the school supplies fundraiser.

Caleb’s Cause & Effect!

Be Nice on the 9th this month now through the 9th by sending love and diapers to Caleb’s Cause. We are calling this “Caleb’s Cause & Effect (thanks to Greg from our board for the cute name)!

There are many government programs to fill the gaps for food but there are none that assist families with diapers. When funds are tight and resources are slim, frustrations mount, babies cry and child abuse increases. Caleb’s Cause aims to eliminate child abuse in Oklahoma caused by a lack of clean diapers. YOU can help by sending packs to aid those in some of the most needy areas. Items purchased will go directly to Caleb’s Cause so please note on the gift receipt that you are being Nice on the 9th/sending in Caleb’s memory. We will show everyone after the 9th how many diapers you send! We’ve told Caleb and his mom how amazing our donors are so go here to show them The Caleb Effect in action!

Nice on the 9th for Parent Promise!

This month we will be hosting a virtual supply drive for Parent Promise! Items will be sent directly to Parent Promise but if you could pretty please let them know on the gift message that this is in memory of Caleb/part of The Caleb Effect, we would be grateful.

Wish List Items:
https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/2BEGSKNJY8ZGQ...

-Tell me more! What is Parent Promise and what do they do?

Parent Promise offers voluntary programs that provide parents with educational resources and support to help gain confidence in parenting skills. Parents receive one-on-one support, guidance and resources to develop a nurturing home and strengthen their family, whether it be in the form of parenting advice, child development exercises or emotional support.

They are committed to preventing the abuse and neglect of Oklahoma’s children through parent education and support.

-What are they going to do with the Wishlist items?
Trained Family Parent Educators provide developmental tools and tips to use in age-appropriate play. Books and other educational activities are provided so parents can become their child’s first teacher and prepare them to enter school ready to learn.

Participants can also earn "Baby Bucks" by participating in their program. These Baby Bucks are then used to purchase items from their Family Resource Room. Even things many of us take for granted, like household cleaning items can make a difference to a family.

Nice on the 9th for FACT!

Small feet. Impossible shoes to fill.

The pumpkins, changing leaves and temperature drops mean that the holiday season is upon us. For many this is a time to look forward to celebrating with family and friends, but for too many teens, the very real struggles remain long after the last lights have dimmed.

November’s Nice on the 9th The Caleb Effect will be supporting our friends at FACT for a very special event, a “FACT Night.”

“What is FACT and what do you mean by a FACT Night?”

We’re glad you asked.

The Family Awareness and Community Teamwork (or FACT) program is sponsored by the Leadership Foundation of Oklahoma, a 501(c)3 organization focused on equipping the community to make a difference in the lives of at-risk youth in Oklahoma City.

A FACT Night is a weekly character development meeting with students and OKC Police. Students show up after school, receive a meal, hang out with officers and mentors, and receive a short lesson. During these meetings students are encouraged to engage in group discussions and activities that would enhance their character development, decision making skills, leadership roles, and quality community involvement.

Grief, stressful situations and just trying to ensure the basics are met can present unique challenges for youth. By recognizing circumstances influence choices, it gives officers a perspective they may not have appreciated. By showing students a community of support and offering mentorship and life skills, the officers create a group of trailblazers ready to pave their own way through the world.

How can I help?
This month, we humbly ask that you consider donating either directly through FACT's website, via our virtual fundraiser on social media or by purchasing items for a teen from our Amazon wishlist for OKCPD's FACT program. https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/LZ56SN1X0QT2...

(They will also accept turkey donations to help with holiday meals if anyone out there has access to gift cards or extra freezer space until the 9th)

Can't make a monetary contribution? Take a few seconds and hit that share button to earn your good deed for the day.

To learn more or to donate directly to FACT, visit their website at https://www.factokc.com

🐾 Nice on the 9th for Bella SPCA Rescue Center!

Oct 2021-Bella SPCA.JPG

🐶😻Caleb loved his furry playmates (sometimes a little too much) and was so excited to kiss one of his extremely tolerant kitties every chance he had. We think he would approve of sending some extra love to the beautiful two and four-legged friends at Bella SPCA.

🧺 We will be collecting much needed supplies at Bella SPCA Rescue Center

10374 S. Coltrane Road, Guthrie, OK 73044 on Saturday, October 9th from 9am-12pm.

😢 As you may have seen, we had to postpone the event last month because they had some very ill dogs of which several unfortunately did not survive. Our hearts are still aching and we thought we would bring some extra joy to them this OU/TX weekend.

💵 For every $5 donated in this fundraiser for Bella SPCA (leave your team choice in the comments after you donate), your team will receive a vote. ❤️🏈🧡All who donate any amount will be entered in a drawing for a prize! Come drop by before the big game or come for the whole event!

Can’t make it to the event or want to bring donations with you? Do something for the furry friends in your town or donate online!

🧼 You can purchase items from their wishlist https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/10W9YVBVZ2RYF/ and come help organize shelves, wash out dirt/leaves from dog crates that have been sitting outside and stuff goodie bags (a great activity for anyone bringing older kids in need of service hours).

*In addition to the wishlist, if you have clean towels or sheets, they will also happily accept these items!

💻**IMPORTANT!! We need anyone who plans to volunteer to fill out the volunteer application form at https://bellaspca.org/volunteer

Nice on the 9th for Literacy!

Reading. It's something we take for granted but that many were never taught as a child.
We know this season is a busy one so we are making it easy to be Nice on the 9th this month.
Caleb LOVED books so we would love to see you share a book with someone or support your local literacy program.

Need Ideas?

-Leave books with an SUDC fact sheet (https://sudc.org/.../uploads/2021/02/SUDC-Fact-Sheet-2.pdf) in a Little Free Library in your area: https://littlefreelibrary.org/ourmap...

-Contact your local library and ask how you can donate a book. Find a library near you here: https://www.worldcat.org/libraries

-Read to your kids (or someone else's)

-Get involved in a literacy program https://www.literacyworldwide.org/

-Give large print books or word puzzles to a senior center

-Read the traffic signs and everyday items aloud as you run your errands

-Bring an extra book with you to give away at the grocery store, on the train, or while you are on vacation

-Have fun and spread some love for learning in memory of Caleb and all children lost to Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood

Thank you for being Nice on the 9th!
